A friend of mine has just started a general sports site and wanted to hear my opinion regarding his matter. I thought it would be beneficial to many of my readers If I would share my opinion over here.
Building a Sports Network
Don’t be afraid , I don’t mean anything big which will need couple of millions to set up. What I mean by sports network is a site , a blog , a forum and a sports directory. I believe you get the idea, if not I’m explaining below. By having a site you could always expand your network by creating blogs , forums and directories which will increase your traffic and income at the same time. On your site you post different products about sports , different results and stuff like that. On your blog you can post the latest updates, live football match reports etc. A forum is really a great place to build some loyal members which will come over and over again to share their ideas and opinions with the rest. Lastly, a directory will be important to organize all the other sports sites and get a reciprocal link from them. In this way you will get some backlinks.
How to promote a sports network ?
There are different ways to promote a sport site or forum. Personally I believe that most of the sports are watched on TV so I think its the best information resource for you to get latest headlines or news.
YouTube
I would say that YouTube is the best way to send traffic and interested members to your sports site. You can watermark some sports videos or at the end you can add your site’s URL and in this way all the viewers of that video, if interested, are going to check your site or forum
Facebook is another place to generate traffic for your site, I strongly believe that by creating some specific Football or any other sports groups can get you many returning visitors for your sports sites. You can open particular fan groups and add your url at the description
Link Building
There are dozens of sports sites or forums around the world. Try registering in some communities, be part of them , post daily and create your reputation over there. You can then add a link in your signature. Blog commenting is another interesting idea where you could post some useful comments on some high ranked sports blogs. Also I strongly believe that link exchanges between same niche sites would be beneficial to both of the exchangers so you have a win-win situation
What Not To DO !?
Never ever submit your sports site on link farms (sites full of links where nobody ever clicks them) Google hates them so you can get penalized and lose some positions on SE’s. Always write useful and unique content and try to submit in different article directories. In this way I believe you will see your traffic increasing day after day
