How To Choose a Profitable Niche

April 6, 2010 in Affiliate Marketing, Make Money, SEO by Olgi Zenullari

Usually, one of the most important factors which is directly related with how much money you are going to earn is the niche you choose and that’s where most of the online money makers fail, in either choosing the wrong niche and losing interest in the first couple of months or running out of ideas on what to do because the niche is not their area of expertise.

This will be a complete guide with step by step instructions and screenshots on how you can choose a profitable niche that is actually searched and doesn’t have a lot of competition

Choosing a Niche

Since everyone wants to make money online the biggest mistake is launching sites about how to make money, I don’t have anything against it but the problem is they money making blogs and they ask how to make money in different forums which, to me sounds like a contradiction!

You should realize that you can make money online even by having a cat related blog or about your favorite soccer team, you must only have the desire and will to write daily fresh content for your site

These days things have become a lot easier in tweaking and analyzing different factors. Back in 10 years there were no scripts or programs which would tell you how many times is a keyword searched or other information. As in all the other businesses, even online you need the appropriate tools (technology) to automate and make everything easier. One of the scripts I use (and I highly recommend you as well) is Market Samurai (or you can use the Free Google External Keyword Tool)

For this guide I’ll be using Airsoft Guns as the niche, they are quite popular all over the world.

Keyword Research

Since Airsoft Guns is a broad term, we need to find a long tail keyword which will still have a lot of searches but less competition. We create a new project using Market Samurai and these are the keywords suggested with their search volume

Keyword Suggestions From Market Samurai

It is quite difficult for you to rank for the first terms such as “airsoft” or “airsoft gun” so we check the rest of the list and voila let us concentrate in the following keywords

  • Electric Airsoft
  • Airsoft Sniper

Electric Airsoft

  1. Approximately there are 550,000 broad searches for that term and around 8,000 exact ones.
  2. Competition in Google for the above mentioned keyword is approximately 477,000

Airsoft Sniper

  1. Approximately there are 550,000 broad searches and more than 60,000 exact searches
  2. Competition in Google is something at 545,000

By the above data, we decide it’s much more profitable for us to use the second keyword, airsoft sniper as our primary keyword and build the site around that keyword

Choosing a Domain Name

Here is another point where many tend to fail by registering useless domain names. Remember something, for SEO purposes if your keyword is “airsoft sniper” then your domain must include the same keyword.

A .com is always the preferred option but if its not available I recommend .INFO or even with a hyphen in the middle. I checked and found this 2 domain names available:

Personally I would purchase both of them and use as the primary site the first one (.INFO)

Conclusion

We have now a great niche to work in, the traffic is worth it and the competition is low. The above niche can be easily monetized by adding PPC advertisements and affiliate links to airsoft guns. This was an article specifically for the amateurs which now have more clear picture on how to choose their niche and what keywords to use
