Webit Expo 2011

Webit Expo 2011

November 13, 2011 in Affiliate Marketing, Business, Social Media by Olgi Zenullari

Being a Webit Consul, I had the possibility to invite a couple of friends to the biggest digital marketing conference in Europe, Webit Expo, held in Sofia, Bulgaria. As far as I know we were about 7 people from Albania. It was a real pleasure for me meeting some of the industry leaders. In this article I will emphasize some important events which took place in Sofia and how this conference helped us grow our business even bigger.

First Day in Sofia, 25th October

After arriving at Sofia’s International Airport, we got a cab and gave him the hotel name. Ironically he didn’t leave us at the place we had asked, instead we had to walk like 600-700 meters. The hotel we were staying was Hotel Lion, which was really comfortable and located at the center. After leaving our luggage, we were starving hence we wanted to eat lunch. The interesting thing is that we walked like for 15-20 minutes and we couldn’t locate a fast-food or a restaurant. The only things we could see were shoes, shoes and shoes. Tens of shops selling any kind of leather shoes. Luckily near our hotel there was a fast-food (Aladin) and the food was quite nice.

I was checking all the shopping centers nearby and I found Sofia Outlet Center which, according to Google Maps it was 2.9 km away by foot so we decided to walk. When we were getting closer to the spot on the map we couldn’t locate the shopping center that’s why we asked a guy and he told us that we were like 20 minutes away (by car!!!). So we got a cab and we headed to Sofia Outlet Center. (taxi’s in Sofia are extremely cheap, maybe because they work with gas)

Second Day in Sofia, 26th October

We woke up early in the morning to attend the conference. I was amazed seeing a huge crowd of digital marketing addicts and I felt quite good. For me this was the first international conference I was attending and I had the possibility to get to know with some of the industry leaders. Here are some photos:

Conclusion

Webit Expo 2011 was a real inspiration for me, not only I had the opportunity to discuss with like minded and share thoughts on various topics, but we also had fun with some of my friends so greetings to Jonian , Arber , Albi & Ledio for the awesome time in Sofia city!

How Google can destroy your online business overnight

October 16, 2011 in Business, SEO by Olgi Zenullari

We’ve all heard about thousand times the phrase “don’t keep all your eggs in one basket” and in this case it fits accordingly. If you’re traffic is coming solely from Google then chances are you won’t survive, no matter whether you do blackhat or whitehat.

Early this year Google launched what it is notoriously known as Panda, an algorithm change which affected thousands of webmasters worldwide and affected many businesses as well. So what exactly was/is Panda about? Google wanted to wipe out all the MFA’s (made for adsense sites, or simple sites made for the sole purpose of earning money through ads / affiliate programs) which would allow authority sites with better content and better structure to rank higher. This is a screenshot I took from one of my sites and it clearly shows how bad the situation is:

The site above was ranking #2 for a very competitive keyword and once it was averaging 800-1000 unique visitors per day but after the panda update the site was lost in the serps. Note that the site contained unique content, was nicely done and didn’t even have any affiliate links in it (besides Google Adsense which sounds ironic banning a site which is using your service as the only way of income)

Solution

There’s no actual solution on how to protect yourself from the bizarre changes of Google. The only suggestion I would give is to DIVERSIFY your traffic sources. Social Media can be really lucrative if used properly, then you can also do some banner exchanges with similar sites and if you really want to push it, offline marketing would be ideal (however this one depends based on your niche)

Conclusion

The conclusion is quite simple, if you have 80 % traffic from Google then you better move before its too late. PPC / Media buying will not only increase your traffic but will also help you win loyal readers for your site

How To Avoid PayPal Fees by using Mass Payment

How To Avoid PayPal Fees by using Mass Payment

May 9, 2011 in Business by Olgi Zenullari

If you send and receive frequently money via PayPal, chances are you are losing a lot of money on fees. If you are a business / premier account holder there’s a legal solution on how you can avoid PayPal fees (you will spend only $1 no matter how much you send, even $10,000).

To be honest I had to send a large amount of money to a friend of mine via PayPal and the fees would eat up like $150 so after I did some research I found the so called method of “Mass Payments”

Here’s an explanation directly from PayPal about mass payments

PayPal’s Mass Payment feature allows anyone with a Premier or Business account to send multiple payments instantly – saving time, money and hassle.Your recipients pay nothing to receive payments. You pay a low transaction fee of 2% for each payment, capped at $1 per payment. So if someone is lucky enough to receive a $10,000 payment from you, your payment fee is only $1. And because you save money on postage, stationery, and the time it takes to mail checks, Mass Payments could help reduce your running costs.

How To Use Mass Payment option?

After you login into your account and you click on “Send Payment” there’s an sub-menu with the option “Make a Mass Payment”

To be able to continue you should upload a file which contains the appropriate information like to whom you are sending the money, the amount, the currency and so on.  So open notepad and write something as shown below:

So if you are looking to send $5,000 us dollars to someone thats how it should look like (keep in mind that those spaces are created by using the TAB button, also known as tab delimited)

Lastly save your file (.txt) and then upload in into PayPal, if you have done it correctly you should see something as below:

Make sure you already have the available balance in your account to proceed with the payment. As you can see the fee paid for transferring $5.000,00 USD is only $1

Stay Away From iContact Email Marketing Company

March 9, 2011 in Business by Olgi Zenullari

If you ask any successful Internet Marketer, they will all tell you the same thing, “money is on the list” and that was my intention when I firstly joined iContact. To tell you the truth they have a very easy to use interface and everything works quite nicely. The real trouble starts when you want to cancel your account so in this article you are going to learn about my bad experience with iContact

First of all, which is very wrong, is the fact that you cannot cancel your account online, but you have to call their support (this means an extra expense for you) and pray someone picks up the phone. I seriously called them more than 4 times and only today I spoke with a lady from their support staff

I told her that my credit card was billed 3-4 consecutive months and I didn’t even use their system, I tried to contact them but no one picked up the phone and still I was being billed for a service I didn’t use. She gently responded that to cancel my account I would have to speak with another department (Cancellation Department, wtf!? they have a department just for cancellations, seems they are getting tons of calls) and they were out of the office so  I had to contact them tomorrow. She gave me a reference number that I had to show to them in order for verification process and so on … pffff

While she was checking my info (not to mention she asked me more than 7 times for my username because apparently she couldn’t hear it right) I asked her why should someone cancel an account by phone when he/she can cancel it online with no such obstacles and her response was really naive: “We do it for protection, we need a verbal approval just in case someone accesses your account and deletes your account without your knowledge” … I stopped for a moment and then I asked her whether I would get a refund and she replied that she was sorry (she really seemed so) but unfortunately the policy of the company said it was not possible to

So if you are here and desperately looking for a good email marketing company which won’t eat your money and which will make your life easier, look no further, sign up for AWEBER (you can thank me later on)

Think Globally, Act Locally

Think Globally, Act Locally

July 19, 2010 in Business by Olgi Zenullari

I’ve been facing this quote different times (last one on my Sociology class) and to tell the truth there might be many meanings for it however I would like to connect it with e-business (since thats my area of expertize)

Internet is one of the major factors of globalization. You can hire someone from India without the need of going out of your house. In fact this is what globalization is all about, surpassing the bureaucratic barriers and be able to do business freely from anywhere. One of my latest ventures had designers from Pakistan, coders from Israel and programmers from India and quite frankly all I knew about them was their name and email addresses

I live in a poor country (literally) where the Internet boom has just begun. Being able to surf on the internet plus knowing English has helped me quite a lot in absorbing ideas from other countries (where the Internet era has begun earlier) and applying them on my own country.

A small example, different countries surely have their own webmaster forums where they discuss various webmaster related topics in their languages however there wasn’t a well established on in Albania, hence I launched successfully Webmaster.al which nowadays is the biggest albanian webmasters community. Did I invent the wheel? Of course not, all I did was “stealing” a proven successful concept and executed on my own language and this is how I use “think globally, act locally”

Thanks to the Internet, many webmasters from third world countries have endless opportunities to actually create a profitable online venture for the below mentioned reasons:

  • Fewer Competition
  • Local Targeted Audience
  • Your Own Native Language

What successful proven ideas to launch in my country?

Go and have a look at Alexa’s Top Sites , what you will see are actually the most successful sites (hence the most visited ones). You can get some nice ideas from there. Ideas from blogging platforms to advertising networks, business directories and even niche related communities, they will all help you generate a lot of passive income in the coming years. You only have to be persistent, patient and work hard to achieve your goals

Its Good To Be First

No matter whats the population of your country, there will always be a big traffic flow which equals money in our case (unless you are unfortunate and live in Vatican City). Launch niche sites, pregnancy related forums, car addict blogs, everything in your own language. In this case you will be also be contributing for your own country by launching different well organized sites.

Don’t Work For The Sake Of Money

Do not open sites for the sole purpose of getting money. Don’t launch forums or sites in a niche where you only know that it pays well for a single click. You will lose interest quite soon hence your site will die. Thats why I recommend you to write a plan firstly and then execute it step by step.

While I was searching a cd-rom on my office I found an old business plan I had (back in 2008) where I had listed some of my ideas and domain names and almost all of them have been launched, some of them successfully and some not but hey, its worth trying rather than sit and think that it won’t work

This post can be categorized properly as motivational however it is genuinely business related so I would ask you now to start doing something now, whatever you do, if you work on it its gonna grow big enough in the coming years!
